Detailed Text For Service: Architecture

As implied by the name, Arrowhead System Engineering provides services covering three System Engineering disciplines:

Additionally, learning sessions relating to the engineering process and the Department of Defense Architectural Framework (DoDAF) are offered in a classroom environment or as a workshop for project kickoff using real project data.

Architecture Definition expertise is provided for top-down systems and system-of-systems; decomposing Operational needs and requirements to functions and finally a physical implementation following the DoDAF process. Tools such as Enterprise Architect and System Architect are supported at this level with a transition to DOORS for final physical implementation. Experience and expertise is provided for satellite and airframe systems, complex data systems, along with momentum systems. Pertinent examples of previous Architecture definition include:

  • Vehicle level architecture for F6 satellite bus and payload
  • Multiple vehicle/system data systems (see detailed list)
  • High performance, low power fault tolerant System on Chip
  • Next Generation Reaction Wheel Assembly and Control Moment Gyroscope architecture
  • Magnetic suspension control system architecture for Control Moment Gyroscope

Requirements Development and Management expertise is supported with decades of experience through requirement generation ranging from low level element description (e.g. hybrids, gate arrays, and card level requirements) to fully implemented satellite level requirements. This includes full traceability using Enterprise Architect and DOORS to document relationships from operational needs to verification artifacts. The expertise spans multiple systems deployed on orbit. Highlights of these deployed systems are:

  • SLI/CEV architecture resulting in the Orion fault tolerant data system (fail silent flight computer, Time Triggered Ethernet switched network, and Remote Interface Unit (RIU)
  • Next generation Control Moment Gyroscope family used on all classified vehicles since the early 2000’s
  • Common Constellation Series (HR12, HR14, HR16) Reaction Wheel Assembly with over 500 units delivered and in orbit
  • Enhanced MDM architecture used in the Endeavor Orbiter vehicle and Solid Rocket Boosters in the Space Transportation System

Technical Management and Project Planning experience was gained as Technical Director for over two dozen programs starting as early as 1985. This expertise was leveraged as a leader in the deployment of the successful CMMI level 3 assessment for systems engineering in 2008 and implementation and author of the 2016 deployed Aerospace System Engineering process including Technical Baseline and System Engineering Management Plan requirements for a major Fortune 100 company.
